The beloved family pet, there is nothing quite like having a cat or dog, bird or (for some at least) rat but is owning a pet the path to pests?
There is no simple answer and obviously it really depends on what kind of pest we are talking about. Pets and fleas go hand in hand and you can be sure that if you own a dog or cat you they will get fleas at some point. The thing with fleas is that as long as you get on top of the problem straight away you can prevent them making the transition from your pet to your home.
With other pests you will find it is rare for your pet to bring them into the home and with dogs and, especially, cats, you will find that they actually help keep some pests, like rodents, birds and possums, away from your home. That is a definite plus.
In the end, having a pet doesn’t place you at any great risk of pests as long as you ensure your pet is well groomed and looked after and on the flipside, they are actually quite good at deterring other pests from coming near your home.
